A carbon-leaching site supervisor was shot dead during an overnight robbery at Loliondo area in Transmara South, Narok County.

The attack happened on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at about 2:10 a.m.

According to the police, an unknown number of armed suspects raided the site with the intention of stealing carbon.

The carbon is used for extraction of gold from sites in the area. It is on high demand for use at the site and elsewhere, police said.

The site supervisor, identified as Abdi Jamah, was shot twice while resting in his room—once in the stomach and once in the left thigh. He succumbed to his injuries following excessive bleeding.

A second victim, identified aged 24, sustained an injury to his right limb. He was rushed to Kuria West Sub-County Hospital in Kehancha, where he was receiving treatment in fair condition.

Police said the suspects forcibly broke into the strong room and managed to steal a small amount of carbon.

Two spent cartridges believed to be 7.62×39mm ammunition were recovered at the scene and are to be subjected to ballistic examination.

Three men were arrested after they were found near the scene and allegedly failed to give a clear account of their movements. They were detained for interrogation.

The scene was processed and documented, while the deceased’s body was moved to the Transmara South Sub-County Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem.

Police investigations into the attack and the identities of the other suspects are ongoing.

Such attacks have been on the rise in the area amid calls for action to tame the trend. The gangs target gold proceeds in the area, police investigations show.

Police said some of the reported cases have been solved while others pend unsolved.

Special squads were sent to the area to pursue the gangs behind the attacks.
