Prof. Collins Odote has been reappointed chairperson of the Council of Legal Education (CLE) for another three-year term, effective October 23, 2026.
Prof. Odote’s reappointment comes as the council continues to implement its 2023–2027 strategic plan, which has focused on regulatory reforms, quality assurance in legal education and improvements to the administration of the Advocates Training Programme (ATP) Examination.
During his previous term, the council developed two draft regulations aimed at strengthening the oversight of legal education and training in Kenya.
The Draft Legal Education (Licensing and Quality Assurance) Regulations, 2026, and the Draft Legal Education (Advocates Training Programme) Regulations, 2026, were handed over to the Attorney General for further consideration.
The council says Prof. Odote’s new term will focus on building on the reforms initiated during his previous tenure, strengthening governance and enhancing collaboration with stakeholders in the legal education sector.
The CLE is mandated to regulate legal education and training in Kenya and says it will continue implementing its strategic plan to improve standards, accountability and quality assurance across the sector.
