President William Ruto on Thursday, October 8, 2026, launched the Fundi Locator portal, a government digital platform intended to connect skilled workers with customers seeking technical services across Kenya.
The platform, developed under the National Vocational Training Platform (NVTP), allows technicians to create professional profiles, submit their credentials for verification, and receive service bookings through the system.
According to the president, the launch is part of a wider government program targeting workers in the informal sector through three interventions: Fundi Locator, the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) program, and the revamped NSSF Haba Haba savings scheme.
The initiatives are being implemented under the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) program.
Under the latest NYOTA rollout, Cycle 2, 63,825 applicants enrolled, were screened, and had portfolios of evidence compiled, with 4,543 sitting for the final assessment.
Speaking at State House on October 8 during the National Training Industrial Authority Graduation of 3,727 skilled workers, Ruto said the platform would let employers meet skilled, certified workers online.
“Through Fundi Locator, recognized skills will meet demand, Fundis will meet customers, and employers will find proven competence wherever it is,” Ruto explained.
Fundi Locator
According to Ruto, Fundi Locator operates as a digital marketplace that connects customers who need specific services with technicians who offer them.
According to the platform’s official app description, customers can search for services by trade, location, and name, then view professional profiles.
The system covers all 47 counties and includes trades such as plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, roofing, painting, and drainage.
A customer can enter the required service and location, review available profiles, and compare information such as experience, certifications, service areas, pricing range, ratings, and reviews.
Additionally, a customer can select a Fundi, choose a preferred appointment time, provide details of the work details, and submit a booking.
The platform also provides messaging and booking-management functions.
Requirements to Register as Fundi
To register on Fundi Locator, a person must provide a valid national identification document and a working phone number.
The registration information also includes the applicant’s trade or skill category, years of experience, and service location.
Further, the applicants must identify their town, county, or wider area of operation.
Additional documents, but not mandatory, include certificates, photographs of previous work, portfolios, or references to support their profiles.
Before submitting the application, the applicants must also agree to the Fundi Locator code of conduct and quality standards.
How to Register
A skilled worker must first create an account on the Fundi Locator platform and enter their personal and professional information.
The applicant then identifies the trade or services offered and indicates where those services are available.
The applicant can add supporting documents, including certificates or evidence of previous work, to the professional profile.
After uploading the required documents, the platform submits the credentials for review before the applicant receives verification.
Once approved, the fundi’s profile becomes available to customers searching for the relevant service.
Through the platform, applicants have a professional dashboard to manage their profiles, bookings, and messages.
How Customers Find and Book Fundis
Customers searching for services must identify the service they need and provide their location.
After identifying their needs, customers can search by keyword, trade category, or county and view profiles of available technicians.
Upon selecting a technician, the customer can book the service, choose a preferred time, and provide details of the job.
Completed jobs will receive ratings and reviews through the platform.
