M-KOPA has marked its 15th anniversary after reaching 10 million customers since its founding in 2011, with the company reporting record revenue of $600 million for its 2025 financial year.

The revenue figure represents a 45% increase from 2024, while three million new customers joined M-KOPA over the past 12 months across Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda and South Africa.

The company also expanded its workforce, adding about 200 full-time employees, a 9% increase in headcount, alongside more than 5,000 new sales agents. M-KOPA now employs more than 2,500 people and has created income opportunities for nearly 50,000 sales agents.

“2025 was a record year for M-KOPA, with customer and revenue growth reaching new highs,” said Chief Financial Officer Faraimose Kutadzaushe.

M-KOPA says it currently onboards about 10,000 customers every day and processes micropayments at a rate of 23 transactions per second.

The company, which initially focused on financing solar systems, expanded into smartphone financing in 2020. It has since broadened its offering to include digital loans and electric mobility products, with more than 10,000 electric motorcycles and three-wheelers financed in Kenya.

M-KOPA has also increased investment in smartphone manufacturing, including through technology acquisitions and the opening of what it describes as Africa’s largest smartphone assembly factory in Kenya. It latest X4 smartphone series launched this month.

The company said it has recorded a five-year compound annual growth rate of 50% as it expands its financial and asset-financing services across Africa.
