KMPDU Secretary General Dr Davji Bhimji Atellah said the decision followed a joint meeting of the union’s National Advisory Council (NAC) and National Executive Council (NEC) held on October 16, 2026, where the leadership resolved to begin negotiations immediately.
Doctors have shifted from agitation to formal negotiations with the national and county governments, in a bid to secure better terms of service under the 2025–2029 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), with the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) targeting a deal by December 2026.
In a statement on Monday, KMPDU Secretary General Dr Davji Bhimji Atellah said the decision followed a joint meeting of the union’s National Advisory Council (NAC) and National Executive Council (NEC) held on October 16, 2026, where the leadership resolved to begin negotiations immediately.
The union has appointed a 12-member team to lead county negotiations after the Council of Governors and the Salaries and Remuneration Commission approved its request for a centralised bargaining process.
Atellah said the union was entering the talks with a clear plan and a united leadership, drawing lessons from the challenges experienced during the 2017–2021 CBA cycle.
“Unlike the prolonged uncertainties of the past, we are stepping into these negotiation rooms organised, legally anchored, and unified across both national and county levels. The lessons of the 2017–2021 cycle have taught us vigilance, preparedness, and the absolute power of solidarity,” he said.
“This is our moment to secure better terms of service, protect our welfare, and guarantee a dignified working environment that reflects the true value of medical professionals in Kenya.”
