KejaMove, the Nairobi-based moving and relocation company, has launched what it says is Africa’s first automated moving quotation service inside WhatsApp. The new tool, called the KejaMove AI Assistant, lets customers get a calculated, ready-to-use moving quote, retrieve a quote they requested earlier, order packing materials, and get answers to common moving questions, all inside a single WhatsApp chat. It went live this week, and anyone can try it by sending “Hi” to 0723 474 252.

For eligible home and domestic long-distance moves, the assistant collects a customer’s move details directly in the chat and runs them through the same pricing engine that calculates quotes on kejamove.com. If the move qualifies, the assistant returns a price on the spot and generates a PDF quotation carrying a valid reference number, attached to the same conversation.

“We’ve spent years building technology to take the guesswork and delays out of moving quotations. Bringing that technology to WhatsApp was the natural next step because that’s where our customers already talk to us,” said KejaMove founder and CEO Joshua Mutua. “What excites me most is that this isn’t just another chatbot answering questions. It can actually calculate the cost of your move, generate a formal quotation and send it to you right there in the conversation. We believe this is a first for Africa, and it’s a glimpse of how we see the future of moving services on the continent.”

It is not KejaMove’s first attempt at removing the wait from getting a moving quote. TechMoran reported in September on the AI-powered instant quoting system KejaMove had already built into its website. The WhatsApp assistant runs on that same underlying engine rather than a separate one, extending it into the channel the company says most of its customers were already using anyway — to share locations, send photos of furniture, and ask questions mid-move.

Getting there took some real debugging. During testing, an ordinary Nairobi trip from Umoja to Donholm was briefly priced as though it covered roughly 312 kilometres. The pricing logic wasn’t at fault — “Umoja” had resolved to the wrong place. There is more than one Umoja in East Africa, and even Mombasa, one of KejaMove’s busiest long-distance routes, shares its name with a location in Tanzania. KejaMove says it now resolves typed locations against the geography it actually serves before calculating a route, and customers can drop a WhatsApp location pin instead of typing an address when they want more precision.

The assistant does more than pricing. It can look up a customer’s past quotations by phone number, take orders for packing materials sold through the KejaMove shop — cartons, tape, wrapping paper, bubble wrap, stretch wrap — and open inquiries for the services that aren’t priced automatically, including office moves, international relocation, storage, pet relocation, and decluttering. KejaMove says a customer can ask for a person at any point, and the bot hands the full conversation thread to a staff member rather than restarting it.

KejaMove was selected in 2019 to join Alibaba’s eFounders Fellowship, the e-commerce giant’s program giving African founders exposure to its e-commerce and digital tools. Founder and CEO Joshua Mutua, who also previously ran the real estate platform KejaHunt, has been writing for TechMoran since at least 2018, when he covered how PayPal’s M-Pesa integration was changing life for developers in Kenya.

Using the new assistant is straightforward:

  1. Tell it your home size — pick an option it shows you, or describe it in your own words.
  2. Share where you’re moving from and to — type the locations or send a WhatsApp location pin.
  3. If the move qualifies for automatic pricing, get your quote and PDF instantly in the same chat.

Is the WhatsApp quote generated automatically?

Yes, for eligible moves. The KejaMove AI Assistant collects the details it needs and prices the move using the same engine behind kejamove.com.

Will I get a quotation PDF?

Yes. Every automatically priced move gets a detailed PDF quotation with a valid reference number, sent in the same WhatsApp conversation.

What if my move needs a survey instead of an instant price?

Larger homes, unusual access, or complex inventories get flagged for a closer look instead of an automatic number, and the assistant arranges the right follow-up with KejaMove’s team.

Can I still speak to a person?

Yes. Customers can ask for a person at any point in the chat, or call or WhatsApp KejaMove directly on 0723 474 252.

KejaMove’s AI Assistant is live now on WhatsApp. Customers can start a chat by messaging 0723 474 252, or get the same quote from the KejaMove website.
