Vivo appears to have quietly expanded its portfolio in the Kenyan market with the launch of the new Vivo Y29, a budget smartphone with modest specifications and features.

It packs a massive 6500mAh battery and a 120Hz display – specs more commonly found in midrange devices rather than in the budget segment.

The Vivo Y29 features a 6.68-inch LCD display with HD+ (1608 x 720) resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Users can also enjoy 264 PPI pixel density and 1000 nits peak brightness.

Under the hood is a Snapdragon 685 processor paired with 8GB of RAM. The phone also comes in 128GB and 256GB storage variants.

At the back, you get a dual camera setup with a 50MP main lens and 2MP depth sensor, while selfies can be taken with the 8MP front-facing camera.

The standout feature is the power pack, as it sports a 6500mAh Li-ion battery with 44W wired charging support. We might not have tested it yet, but we can expect the device to be a really good keeper of power as a daily driver with a battery that big.

Luckily, the huge battery doesn’t seem to have forced the manufacturer to make a thick phone as the Y29 stands at 204g weight with 165.70 × 76.30 × 8.09–8.19 mm as its dimensions.

The Vivo Y29 is available at stores across the country at KES 23,999 for the 128GB model and KES 26,999 for the 256GB variant.
