Dr. Julius Kipngetich has retired from Jubilee Group. Now, all eyes are on the incoming Group CEO Juan Cazcarra to keep the streak alive.

Kipngetich’s deliberate and strategic leadership significantly strengthened the company’s balance sheet. Under his tenure, the firm posted robust financial growth throughout 2025 and the first half of 2026, shifting its core profitability drivers heavily toward investment income and financial services.

After Kipngetich retirement, will Jubilee Group’s robust financial growth be long lived? His exit closes a defining chapter for the regional insurance player as it enters its next phase of growth. Since taking over in January 2018, he spearheaded a major strategic overhaul to streamline operations and drive digital transformation.

He set the stage for the insurer to exit from the general insurance sector through a partnership with Allianz, shifting focus toward high-margin medical and life insurance operations. Under his watch, Jubilee also modernized its infrastructure, relocating its regional headquarters to Upper Hill, Nairobi, while scaling up green energy investments across the region.

Over the past few years, Kipngetich’s has climbed up the ladder, and has been able to grow his career spanning both Kenya’s public and private sectors. One time when he was the head of the Kenya Wildlife Service from 2004 to 2012, for instance, he positively impacted ensuring legacy debts of the agency cleared, while also transforming the agency into a model of institutional governance.

Having revolutionized the corporate scene patiently thanks to rich executive background, which includes roles as Chief Operating Officer of Equity Group and Managing Director of the Investment Promotion Centre, he has (likely) inspired many to grow professionally. Beyond the balance sheet and years of calling the shots in the blue-chip companies’ space, Kipngetich serves as a board member of the Nation Media Group and co-founder of The Blue Company Project, an anti-corruption outfit that mainly focuses on the private sector.

As Juan Cazcarra, who joined the company in July 2021 and has served as Deputy Group CEO since April 2025 takes up the plum job, the market, and investors alike, will be watching closely to see how he builds on Kipngetic’s powerful legacy.

Cazcarra is coming at a time when the insurer’s full-year performance for 2025 saw a net profit jump of 18% to KSh 5.6 billion, up from KSh 4.7 billion in 2024. Growth was driven by an 18% increase in Gross Written Premiums and Deposit Administration Contributions, which reached KSh 62.4 billion.

Total assets grew significantly, prompting a final dividend payout recommendation of KSh 15 per share. For the six months ending June 30, 2026, the Group’s profit before tax rose 30% to KSh 4.42 billion, even as net profit for the period rose nearly 13% to KSh 3.45 billion. Total assets expanded 9% to hit a record KSh 272.69 billion

Amid these good tidings, the underlying operational landscape experienced distinct sectoral pressures. High claims volumes and steep medical inflation severely impacted the health insurance division, causing Jubilee’s overall half-year insurance service results to plummet 60% to KSh 445 million. Instead, the momentum sustaining the company’s growth was driven by a 46% surge in the net insurance finance result (climbing to KSh 2.34 billion) and rapid growth in investment revenue.

Investment assets expanded to KSh 246.49 billion, making up roughly 90% of the entire group’s asset base. Concurrently, its asset management arm underwent an aggressive turnaround, helping the group transition beyond traditional insurance into a broader financial services giant. But will Jubilee survive the retirement of Dr. Kipngetich?

Jubilee Group has picked Mr. Cazcarra as its new Group Chief Executive, effective this December 1, succeeding Dr. Kipngetich, who retired on November 30, after eight years at the helm.

Bringing over 20 years of international leadership experience across Europe, Southeast Asia, and Africa, Cazcarra’s deep industry knowledge is expected excite the markets and investors, and position the company for a future of growth and innovation.

“We extend our gratitude for your visionary leadership and the lasting impact you have made on the Group’s journey,” Jubilee Group Chairman Zul Abdul to the now retired Kipngetich.

While the company boasts strong institutional foundations, it remains to be seen as the market watches how seamlessly leadership transitions.
