Airtel has increased its mobile money market share from 10.9% in quarter three of the Fiscal Year 2025/26 to 11.1% in fourth quarter, says Communications Authority of Kenya (CA).
CA says Airtel Money’s growth within this period is driven by the company’s access expansion, convenience and ensuring customers have a range of ways to use the service.
The main reasons for the growth include powerful partnerships, providing value in transactions, strengthening the digital experience, as well as security for customers.
“Airtel Money has continued to broaden its ecosystem through partnerships and integrations with financial institutions such as Absa Bank and KCB, making it easier for customers to transact as part of their everyday financial lives,” CA report says.
By giving customers flexibility to move money across platforms and pay for a wider range of goods and services through Paybill and merchant payments, bank-to-wallet and wallet-to-bank transfers, and cross-network transactions, Airtel s on the right path.
As more customers rely on mobile money for everyday transactions, affordability remains an important part of ensuring that these services are accessible to those who are not yet fully financially included.
Currently, sending money between Airtel Money subscribers is freeof charge, while transfers from Airtel Money to other service providers are offered at a
lower cost.
Airtel Money is also focused on
providing the right digital infrastructure to make transactions easier, more seamless and secure. This includes revamping the My Airtel App to support seamless transactions across networks for customers who need to send, receive or move money between different platforms while offering security and convenience.
“As Kenya’s mobil money market continues to mature, growth is increasingly about making mobile money more useful across more aspects of everyday life,” CA report says.
