Nandi Hills town is undergoing the official process to be elevated to municipality status, a move expected to unlock additional resources and improve service delivery to residents.

Nandi Governor Stephen Sang said the transition would enable the town to access direct funding, including grants under urban development support programmes, to finance infrastructure and other development projects.

Speaking after inspecting various ongoing Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) projects in Nandi Hills, Sang said the town would become the second recognised municipality in the county after Kapsabet.

He said attaining municipality status would bring significant benefits to residents by enabling the town to access resources for upgrading roads, improving waste management and developing drainage systems.

“This town will soon be elevated to municipality status. This will make the town eligible for urban development funding to upgrade roads, improve waste management and drainage systems,” said Sang.

The governor said the elevation would also facilitate development of modern markets and bus parks while supporting improvement of local water access projects.

He noted that the new status would help streamline service delivery and facilitate proper urban planning as the town continues to expand.

Sang said improved planning would ensure that infrastructure development keeps pace with population growth and increasing economic activity in the rapidly developing town.

He also called on residents to support President William Ruto’s re-election in the coming elections, saying continued national leadership would enable the Government to complete ongoing development projects across the country.

“As a resident of this county, I want to plead with you to join hands in ensuring President Ruto’s re-election. This will enable him to accomplish all his projects that are meant to benefit all Kenyans,” Sang said.

The governor further urged young people who had not registered as voters to take advantage of the ongoing voter registration exercise and enrol so they could exercise their democratic rights.

He said participation in elections was important in enabling citizens to determine the leadership and policies that shape development in the country.

During his visit, Sang inspected several projects being implemented in Nandi Hills under the BETA agenda, including the Koitalel Samoei University, an affordable housing project and the modern market.
