Tumiso, popularly known as Tumi Mathenge, is the eldest daughter of musicians Nameless and Wahu Kagwi and grew up in Kenya’s entertainment spotlight.

However, Tumi has built her life away from her parents while pursuing interests in wildlife conservation, social advocacy, and public speaking.

Her popularity has evolved through television appearances, interviews, and social media.

Recently, her relationship with Homeboyz Radio presenter Jakes Nyanjom became a focus of entertainment coverage.

Early Life and Family

Tumi is the firstborn child of Nameless, whose real name is David Mathenge, and singer Wahu Kagwi, born in 2003.

 “We have two girls, Tumiso, who is 10, and Nyakio, who is three. They are both uniquely special. Tumi, for example, is so empathetic towards other people’s needs and feelings, and is such a strong wildlife enthusiast,” Wahu said during a past interview.

The couple later welcomed their third daughter, Shiru, making Tumi the eldest of the three siblings.

Tumi has also spoken publicly in her family’s defense. In February 2023, she criticized online comments directed at her mother following Wahu’s third childbirth.

“I find it really sad that it is women who are talking about her body. Honestly, I expected better from us, and she literally just had a baby,” Tumi said.

How Tumi Became Interested in Conservation

At 10, Tumi became involved in wildlife conservation after encountering the effects of poaching when she visited the ivory-burning site at Nairobi National Park on her 10th birthday.

Tumi’s first major public advocacy work centered on wildlife, and during that time she wrote for The Nature Conservancy.

She was also involved with Wildlife Savers, raising funds with other children to support orphaned elephants and later with the Kijani Gang, a youth environmental initiative.

In 2019, Tumi traveled to Laikipia with her mother on a conservation trip organized by The Nature Conservancy, and also visited a school and clinic supported by Loisaba Conservancy.

According to Tumi Mathenge, she looks forward to working with organizations such as the Kenya Society for the Protection and Care of Animals (KSPCA) or an animal orphanage in the future.

Girl to Girl Initiative and First Interview

Tumi later turned her attention to issues affecting school-going girls.

At 15, she launched Girl to Girl, an initiative aimed at promoting period positivity and providing sanitary towels to girls who could not afford them or proper menstrual care.

The project partnered with the Ajuma Foundation for an activation in Kajiado.

As Tumiso’s public participation grew, she appeared in her first televised interview in March 2021, on Citizen TV’s DayBreak alongside her father, Nameless, to discuss raising teenagers.

Tumi Mathenge and Jakes Nyanjom

Tumi’s relationship with Jakes Nyanjom, the son of veteran broadcaster Joyce Gituro and a Homeboyz Radio presenter, has recently drawn renewed attention.

The two had appeared together publicly and on social media before directly addressing questions about their relationship.

In April 2026, Tumi gave Jakes a customized Manchester United jersey with the words “I Love My Girlfriend” printed on it.

On September 23, 2026, Tumi visited Jakes at Homeboyz Radio, where he was hosting alongside co-presenter Chunkz.

During the visit, Tumi Mathenge clarified that she and Jakes were doing well, as opposed to the public speculation that they might be together for public appearances.
