A weather outlook from the Kenya Meteorological Service (KMS) shows that rainfall is expected in a few counties between Saturday, August 29 and Wednesday, September 2, 2026, with most of the country expected to see sunny intervals and partly cloudy nights.
In its forecast dated August 29, KMS stated that areas expected to receive rainfall include Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Lamu, Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Marsabit, Tharaka Nithi, Embu, Kitui, Machakos, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu and Nairobi.
“Rainfall is expected in a few counties,” read part of the forecast.
Nairobi is expected to remain sunny on most days, with light rains forecast on Monday and light showers on Sunday night.
KMS Details Weather Forecast for Counties
Along the Coast, Mombasa, Kwale and Kilifi are expected to receive light showers on several days, while Lamu could also experience light showers from Sunday through Tuesday.
Taita Taveta will largely remain sunny, with light showers expected on Sunday.
In the Northeastern region, Garissa is expected to remain mostly sunny, although light rain is forecast on Monday.
KMS added that Wajir could receive light rains on Sunday and Monday, while Mandera is expected to experience light rains on Tuesday.
Marsabit could also receive light rains on Monday, with light showers expected at night on Sunday and Monday.
Eastern Kenya and Central
The weather forecast showed that parts of Eastern Kenya could also receive rainfall. Tharaka Nithi, Embu and Kitui are forecast to receive light rains on Monday, with light showers expected in some areas at night.
Machakos could experience light rains on Monday, while Makueni is expected to remain largely sunny throughout the forecast period.
In Central Kenya, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a and Kiambu are expected to receive light rains on Monday. Kirinyaga could also experience moderate showers on Sunday night, while Nyeri, Murang’a and Kiambu are forecast to receive light showers on Sunday or Monday nights.
Western and Nyanza
The Western and Nyanza regions are expected to remain predominantly sunny, with no significant rainfall forecast across Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii and Nyamira during the five-day period.
KMS said the Rift Valley will also see mostly sunny intervals. Most counties, including West Pokot, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Baringo, Laikipia, Nakuru, Narok, Kajiado, Kericho and Bomet, are expected to remain dry during the period.
Temperatures
According to the weather forecast, temperatures will vary significantly across the country. Mandera is expected to record the highest temperatures, reaching 38°C, followed by Turkana at 37°C and Wajir at 36°C.
KMS stated that Garissa could reach 35°C, while Kisumu is expected to record highs of up to 34°C.
In the highlands, Nyandarua will record some of the lowest temperatures, with minimum temperatures dropping to 4°C on Saturday.
Samburu could fall to 8°C, while Narok, Kericho and Kajiado could record minimum temperatures of between 7°C and 10°C.
