The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has forecast rainfall in several parts of the country between August 23 and 27, with some regions also expected to experience cool, cloudy conditions.

According to the five-day weather forecast issued on August 21, several counties are expected to receive rainfall during the period, while parts of Nairobi, Kiambu, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Nyeri, Makueni, Machakos, Embu, Marsabit, Wajir and Garissa are likely to experience intermittent cool, cloudy conditions.

“Rainfall is expected in several counties. Intermittent cool, cloudy conditions are expected in parts of Nairobi, Kiambu, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Nyeri, Makueni, Machakos, Embu, Marsabit, Wajir, and Garissa counties,” reads part of the forecast.

In Nairobi, cloudy to sunny intervals are expected on Sunday, Monday and Thursday mornings, while Tuesday and Wednesday mornings will have sunny intervals. Afternoons will have sunny intervals throughout the period, with light showers expected on Sunday night. 

KMD Details Weather Forecasts in the Coastal Regions

In the Coast region, Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi and Lamu are expected to experience light showers in the morning, with sunny intervals in the afternoon and partly cloudy nights.

Mombasa will have light showers on Sunday and Tuesday mornings, as well as Thursday morning, and light showers on Wednesday night.

Kwale will receive light showers on Sunday and Thursday mornings. Kilifi and Lamu are expected to receive light showers every morning throughout the five-day period.

According to the forecast, Taita/Taveta will experience sunny intervals in the morning and afternoon, with light showers expected on Thursday afternoon. Nights will be partly cloudy.

Tana River will have sunny intervals in the morning and afternoon throughout the period, with partly cloudy nights.

North-eastern Regions and Eastern Regions

In the northeastern region, Wajir, Mandera, Isiolo and Garissa are expected to experience mainly sunny intervals in the morning and afternoon, with partly cloudy nights.

Wajir will have cloudy to sunny intervals on Tuesday morning, while Garissa will experience cloudy to sunny intervals on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.

Marsabit will experience light rains on Sunday morning, followed by sunny intervals on the other mornings. Afternoons will have sunny intervals, while nights will be partly cloudy.

In the eastern region, Meru, Tharaka-Nithi, Embu, Kitui, Machakos and Makueni will largely experience sunny intervals in the morning and afternoon.

Meru will have light showers on Sunday afternoon, while Tharaka-Nithi will experience light showers on Sunday and Thursday nights.

Embu will receive light rain on Sunday and Monday mornings, with light showers on Sunday night. Kitui will have light showers on Thursday afternoon and Sunday night. Nights in the other counties will generally be partly cloudy.



Central Regions

Nyandarua, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, and Kiambu are expected to experience a mix of sunny intervals, light rains, and showers.

Meanwhile, Nyandarua will have sunny intervals in the morning and afternoon throughout the period. Nyeri will receive light rains on Sunday and Monday mornings.

Kirinyaga will experience light rains on Sunday and Monday mornings, with light showers on Sunday and Thursday nights. Murang’a will have light rains on Sunday morning, light showers on Sunday and Monday afternoons, and cloudy to sunny intervals on Monday morning.

Additionally, Kiambu will receive light rains on Sunday morning and light showers on Sunday afternoon, with cloudy to sunny intervals on Thursday morning.

In the northern region, Turkana will experience sunny intervals in the morning and afternoon throughout the period, with partly cloudy nights.

West Pokot, Elgeyo-Marakwet and Baringo will also experience sunny intervals in the morning and afternoon throughout the five days, with partly cloudy nights.

Further, Samburu will have sunny intervals in the morning and afternoon, with partly cloudy nights. Laikipia will experience light showers on Sunday and Monday afternoons, followed by sunny intervals during the other afternoons.



Other Regions

In the western region, Trans Nzoia and Uasin Gishu will experience sunny intervals in the morning, with light showers on Monday and Tuesday afternoons. Nandi will have light showers on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday afternoons, while Kakamega will receive light showers on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.

In the Rift Valley, Nakuru will experience light showers on Monday afternoon, while Kajiado will have light showers on Sunday afternoon.

Kericho will receive moderate showers on Sunday afternoon and light showers on Monday and Tuesday afternoons.

According to the forecast, Bomet will have light showers on Monday afternoon. Narok will experience sunny intervals in the morning and afternoon throughout the period, with partly cloudy nights.

Kisumu will receive showers on Sunday and Monday afternoons, with sunny intervals during the rest of the period.

Homa Bay will receive light showers on Monday afternoon, while Migori will have light showers on Sunday and Monday afternoons. At the same time, Kisii will receive light showers on Sunday afternoon, while Nyamira expects light showers on Sunday and Monday afternoons.
