The American fashion industry brought its creative heavyweights and celebrity ambassadors together in New York on Monday, November 2, for the 2026 CFDA Fashion Awards, where the red carpet delivered a compelling mix of archival glamour, contemporary couture and experimental eveningwear.
Hosted by actress and entertainer Keke Palmer at the American Museum of Natural History, the annual ceremony celebrated influential designers, creatives and institutions shaping the global fashion industry. But before the trophies were handed out, the cream-coloured carpet became a showcase of personal style, with celebrities, models, designers and fashion insiders making their own statements through carefully curated looks.
Palmer, who hosted the ceremony, made one of the evening’s most memorable fashion appearances in a rare 1970s Bob Mackie gown originally created for actress and singer Raquel Welch in 1975. The shimmering gold design was sourced through vintage dealer Timeless Vixen, bringing a piece of fashion and entertainment history back into the spotlight.
The archival choice was a reminder that luxury fashion does not always need a new-season label to make an impression. Sometimes, the strongest statement comes from giving an exceptional vintage creation another moment in the spotlight.
Hailey Bieber and Zoë Kravitz were among the other prominent personalities on the carpet, alongside singer ROSÉ, actress Demi Moore, Megan Thee Stallion, Pamela Anderson, Naomi Osaka, model Adut Akech and actress Lupita Nyong’o.
Lupita Nyong’o, who presented American Womenswear Designer of the Year, took classic American denim to the CFDA carpet. The Oscar winner wore custom GapStudio by Zac Posen. Her red crop top twisted at the front and showed a sliver of midriff above a floor-length column skirt. In one hand, she carried a light-wash denim jacket. Gold bracelets on both wrists and her full, parted natural bob finished the look. The red looked too good against her rich melanin skin.
The guest list reflected the increasingly interconnected worlds of fashion, music, film, sport and popular culture, with celebrity appearances reinforcing the relationship between designers and the personalities who help bring their creative visions to wider audiences.
Fashion’s business of influence
The CFDA Fashion Awards are more than a celebrity gathering. They provide a platform for recognising the designers, businesses and creative professionals contributing to American fashion’s global influence. This year’s honours included Anthony Vaccarello, who received the International Designer of the Year Award as he concluded his decade-long tenure at Saint Laurent.
Architect Peter Marino received the Fashion Icon Award, while photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin were recognised with the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award. Tory Burch received the Positive Change Award, recognising her philanthropic work and contribution to the fashion industry.

The evening also celebrated American design talent across womenswear, menswear and accessories, alongside emerging designers whose work represents the industry’s next generation. For fashion businesses, such recognition can translate into increased visibility, stronger brand positioning and greater cultural relevance. The red carpet plays a complementary role, giving designers an opportunity to showcase their work through influential personalities whose appearances generate international media attention.
As fashion continues to operate at the intersection of commerce, entertainment and cultural influence, the CFDA Awards remain an important annual meeting point for the people shaping its direction. And if the evening’s red carpet offered any indication, fashion’s appetite for individuality, archival discovery and creative expression is very much alive.
