Visitors planning a trip to the Masai Mara National Reserve can expect different park entry fees depending on their residency status, age, and the time of year they visit.
The 2023 revised charges, introduced under the Maasai Mara Management Plan, remain in force and apply to both non-residents and residents.
Non-resident adults will pay USD 100 per person per day from January 1 to June 30, 2026. The fee will increase to USD 200 per day from July 1 to December 31, 2026.
Children aged 9 to 17 years will pay USD 50 per day, while children aged eight years and below will continue to enjoy free entry.
For Kenyan citizens, the daily park entry fee is KSh1,500 between January and June before rising to KSh3,000 from July.
East African residents will pay KSh2,500 during the first half of the year and KSh5,000 from July onwards.
Students are eligible for discounted rates upon meeting the reserve’s requirements.
Masai Mara Camping Fees
Tourists who choose to camp in the Masai Mara National Reserve are required to pay camping fees in addition to the standard park entry charges.
For non-residents, camping at a public campsite costs USD 30 per adult per night, while a private campsite costs USD 40 per adult.
Children and students pay USD 20 per night at both public and private campsites.
For East African residents, camping at a public campsite costs KSh1,000 per adult, while a private campsite costs KSh1,500.
Children and students pay KSh200 at public campsites and KSh500 at private campsites.
Kenyan citizens pay KSh1,000 per adult at both public and private campsites, while children and students are charged KSh200. In addition, booking a private campsite attracts a KSh10,000 reservation fee.
Vehicle Entry Fees
Vehicle entry charges vary depending on the type and size of the vehicle. Safari vehicles with fewer than six seats pay KSh400, while those with 6 to 12 seats are charged KSh1,000. Vehicles with 13 to 24 seats pay KSh3,000, those with 24 to 44 seats pay KSh4,000, and vehicles with 45 seats or more are charged KSh5,000.
For trucks, vehicles weighing 1 to 3 tonnes pay KSh700, those weighing 4 to 7 tonnes pay KSh2,500, while trucks weighing eight tonnes and above are charged KSh3,500.
Ranger Fees
Visitors requiring the services of a park ranger for a game drive lasting more than six hours will pay KSh3,000, while game drives of less than six hours attract a fee of KSh1,500.
Those camping overnight and requiring full-night security will be charged KSh4,000.
Masai Mara Park Rules
Visitors should note that park entry tickets remain valid for 12 hours, from 6.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m., for those staying outside the reserve.
Tourists leaving the reserve by road must exit by 10.00 a.m., while those departing by air are required to arrive at the airstrip before 10.00 a.m. Staying beyond the permitted time attracts an additional day’s park entry fee.
Guests travelling from hotels outside the reserve to airstrips within the park will be issued with a two-hour transit ticket at the entry gate.
How to Pay Masai Mara Park Fees
The reserve accepts payment in US dollars and Kenya shillings at most entry gates. However, visitors entering through the Mara Triangle (Mara Conservancy) must pay using cashless methods, including Visa, Mastercard, or M-Pesa.
Kenyan citizens and East African residents are required to present valid identification documents to qualify for the applicable resident rates.
Visitors may also purchase park tickets in advance through the designated ticketing system.
