Migori Youth and Mombasa United will renew their rivalry, with both sides still searching for their first victory in the FKF Premier League since earning promotion, as the 2026/27 campaign enters its fifth round on Sunday.
The two newcomers meet at Awendo Green Stadium in one of five fixtures lined up for the day, with Migori hoping to turn their promising start into a maiden top-flight win, while Mombasa seek to stop a run of disappointing results.
The day's headline clash, however, comes at Embu Stadium, where unbeaten leaders Gor Mahia take on second-placed KCB in a meeting that could have an early bearing on the title race.
AFC Leopards also face a difficult assignment against Kakamega Homeboyz in the 23rd edition of the Ingwe Derby at Wanguru Stadium, while Nairobi United host Bandari at Police Sacco Stadium. APS Bomet welcome Murang'a Seal at Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay.
Migori Youth vs Mombasa United
The meeting between Migori and Mombasa offers both newly promoted sides another opportunity to announce themselves in the top flight, having gone through the opening four rounds without a win.
Migori have at least shown they can compete, collecting three points from draws against Kenya Police, Mathare United and Shabana. Their latest outing saw them recover to hold Shabana 1-1, extending their unbeaten run but leaving them still waiting for that elusive first victory.
Salim Babu's side will hope home advantage at Awendo can finally deliver maximum points.
Mombasa, meanwhile, have endured a more difficult introduction to the top tier. They have managed just one point from four matches, coming from a goalless draw against Kenya Police, before losing to KCB, Mara Sugar and Kakamega Homeboyz.
Their most recent setback was a 3-1 defeat to KCB, leaving coach Abdulhamid Moallin under pressure to find a response.
The sides are not strangers, having faced each other in the National Super League last season. Migori won 3-2 at home before the return fixture in Mombasa ended goalless.
With Migori seeking to turn draws into victories and Mombasa desperate to halt their slide, Sunday's encounter could be an important turning point for either newcomer.
Gor Mahia vs KCB
At Embu Stadium, Gor Mahia will put their perfect start to the season on the line against a KCB side that has climbed to second place after recovering from an inconsistent opening.
Charles Akonnor's men have won all four of their opening matches and head into the contest fresh from a 1-0 victory over Kakamega Homeboyz at Bukhungu Stadium on Wednesday.
They will be targeting a fifth consecutive win to maintain their position at the summit and potentially open up an eight-point gap over the bankers.
Gor have received a boost with the return of captain Sylvester Owino, although defender Potiphar Odhiambo is unavailable after sustaining a head injury against Homeboyz.
Akonnor has confirmed that Owino will be eased back into action rather than immediately restored to the starting line-up.
"We are happy Owino is back despite missing Potiphar Odhiambo, but he won't start. We are going to manage him and have him come in gradually," he said.
The Gor coach expects a tough examination against Robert Matano's side but insists his players are focused on extending their winning run.
"We want to win. That's the target, and we are going all out for a fifth consecutive victory. It will be a very difficult test because we are playing against a tactical and technical coach, but our target remains to win," Akonnor added.
KCB arrive with renewed confidence after beating Mombasa United 3-1 to move into second place. A victory in Embu would cut the gap between them and Gor to just two points, giving the early title race a different complexion.
Matano views the fixture as an opportunity for his team to measure themselves against the defending champions and build on their latest result.
"We have prepared well, and our focus is on Gor Mahia. They are in good form and have quality players, but it is a motivation for us to face them and build momentum from the Mombasa United win," he said.
Gor have enjoyed the historical advantage, winning nine of their previous 19 meetings with KCB, while seven ended in draws. The bankers will be hoping to upset that record and become the first team to stop the champions' winning run this season.
AFC Leopards vs Kakamega Homeboyz
AFC Leopards will be looking to return to winning ways when they take on Kakamega Homeboyz in the Ingwe Derby at Wanguru Stadium in Mwea.
Fred Ambani's charges have been held to consecutive draws by Shabana and Mara Sugar, slowing their early-season progress. With six points from four matches, Ingwe cannot afford to fall further behind the teams at the top.
They face a Homeboyz side also eager to respond after suffering their first defeat of the campaign, a 1-0 loss to Gor Mahia at Bukhungu Stadium on Wednesday.
Edward Manoah's men had made a promising start to the season but will now be keen to get back to winning ways against familiar opponents.
The rivalry has produced closely contested encounters, with Homeboyz holding a narrow historical advantage. They have recorded nine victories against Leopards' eight, while five matches have ended in draws.
The teams also shared the spoils in terms of victories last season. Leopards claimed a 2-1 win in Mumias, while Homeboyz responded with a 1-0 victory in the earlier meeting.
With both sides looking to recover from midweek setbacks, the latest instalment of the rivalry offers an opportunity to regain momentum and strengthen their positions in the standings.
Nairobi United vs Bandari
Two struggling sides will meet at Police Sacco Stadium as Nairobi United host Bandari, with both clubs still searching for their first league victory of the season.
Nairobi United have collected three points from their opening four matches, with their latest disappointment coming in a 3-2 defeat to Murang'a Seal.
Patrick Aussems' team made significant changes to their squad during the transfer window but have yet to translate that investment into consistent results. The coach is reportedly under pressure, with the club expecting an improvement in performances.
Bandari have experienced similar difficulties, also collecting three points from four outings despite changes to their technical bench.
Charles Okere's men will be hoping to use the Nairobi trip to turn their fortunes around after struggling to find consistency in the opening rounds.
With both teams under pressure to deliver, the encounter could prove important in restoring confidence and preventing an early-season slump from deepening.
APS Bomet vs Murang'a Seal
APS Bomet will seek to build on their first win of the season when they host an improving Murang'a Seal at Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay.
Sammy Pamzo Omollo's charges finally got their campaign going with a convincing 3-0 victory over 3K, a result that should provide a timely lift after a difficult start.
They now face a Murang'a side that also arrives in good spirits after beating Nairobi United 3-2 to register their second victory of the campaign.
Dennis Odhiambo's men will be targeting another three points to maintain their upward movement and close the gap on the leading teams.
History favours Murang'a, who have won four of their previous meetings with Bomet, compared to two victories for their opponents. Seal also completed a league double over Bomet last season, winning 2-1 before claiming a 2-0 victory in the return fixture.
Bomet will be determined to reverse that record and use their latest victory as a springboard for a more consistent run, while Murang'a will be aiming to make it three wins from five matches.
